Ed Stapleton founded Ed Stapleton Bloodstock in 2017, seeing a need for a full service bloodstock agency that went beyond being the successful bidder at auction.

The agency was founded with the aim to provide a full and complete service to its clients, leaving them free to focus on enjoying their bloodstock successes safe in the knowledge that everything behind the scenes has been taken care of.

Our agency has as its cornerstone the simple philosophy of enabling clients to achieve their goals, whilst maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.

Ed Stapleton Bloodstock stand by our guarantee - if you have a race of significance you wish to win, we will leave no stone unturned to make it happen.

We will shoot for the stars, implement a rock solid game plan to get there, and have a great deal of fun in the process. We study in detail the history of your priority race; determine the budget needed then get on the front foot to find the likely candidates at public auction.

Ed Stapleton attends all major yearling, weanling and mare sales and is able to provide clients with a short list of horses with comprehensive physical, genetic and veterinary analysis.

We are passionate about the Bloodstock and Racing industries and in 2020 we are further expanding our yearling purchasing operations. We believe we have the skill set to mix it with the best and we are looking for like-minded individuals who are either, new to the game and want to join the ride, or for people currently in the industry who want to try a new, fresh and professional approach.

Foal/Weanling Purchase

ESB operates the North South Pinhook (NSP) which purchases 5-10 weanlings each year. However, we are also available for your private hire and for other buyers to hire us and take advantage of our skills be that pinhooking or purchasing to own and race.

Yearling Purchase

The traditional way to enter the thoroughbred business is through the purchase of yearlings. Yearlings have received minimal training prior to sale and often offer tremendous value when compared to other age groups.

Breeze Up/Ready to Run 2 Year Olds

Broodmare Purchase

Our first action, quick result culture has created a new marketplace, the “ready-made” racehorse. No matter if you play at the top end or the claiming game let our experience work for you. Claiming horses, especially broodmare prospects, has been one area where we excel every year. Some of our major clients in this area are international and prefer buying privately or claiming over buying at the sale. Our network of trainers and notes on a majority of the fillies sold at auction make us a necessary tool for anyone looking for quality stock through the claim box. The sale of high end racing prospects, usually after a win, is a very volatile market with prices doubling and tripling with a “special race”.

Racehorses

British racing is the most attractive in the world with its heritage, unmatched variety of racecourses and the high profile of its Flat and National Hunt racing. Notwithstanding relatively low levels of prize money, European racehorses are extremely highly regarded and attract investment by major national and international owners. Ed Stapleton Bloodstock can arrange coverage from many insures who insure many of these horses against death and associated risks and are acknowledged experts in all aspects of racehorse insurance.

Breeding Stock, foals, yearlings

Insurance can be arranged for all bloodstock as well as stallions standing at stud against death, subfertility or disability. Multi-million pound valuations are not uncommon and it is critical to have faith in your insurance policy if the worst happens. We also have close contact with many of leading veterinary surgeons whose advice can be invaluable to our clients.

Stud and Stables insurance

Whether it be a 300 acre stud farm or a 10 box yard for a racehorse trainer, the buildings and associated equipment are often a mixture of household and agricultural risk.Ed Stapleton Bloodstock can organise a specialist insurance policy that is designed especially for these establishments and which provides the broadest cover at an extremely competitive price. We fully understand the specialist nature of stabling horses and the standard of care that is often lavished upon them and this is a natural extension of our equine insurance service.

Private and Commercial Motor

Horse racing requires racehorse trainers and stud farms to cover a high mileage travelling to race meetings and sales. The horses themselves obviously cover similar distances in horseboxes. We can organise fleet policies for all the vehicles involved and make sure that the policies allow the right people to be able to drive, both within the UK and abroad.

Public and Employer’s Liability

Public liability is a pre-requisite for a racehorse trainer’s licence and Employer’s Liability is required by the law of the land for anyone with employees. These insurances protect the racehorse trainer or stud owner against claims for negligence made against them, whether it is from a racehorse kicking a car or from a work rider suffering a career threatening injury. The catalogue for Australia’s most popular thoroughbred auction, the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, has been unveiled and will present a sensational line up of racing’s future superstars.

A mouth-watering line up of 1230 lots has been confirmed by vendors for a seven day selling extravaganza, including 933 lots to be offered across Book 1 of the sale from Tuesday 11 January.

The catalogue showcases the finest yearlings bred across Australia and New Zealand and builds the anticipation of their offering at Australia’s holiday playground.

“Again for 2022 breeders have supported the sale with great enthusiasm,” Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch said.

“The depth and quality of the catalogue will present buyers with a lineup of the Southern Hemisphere’s finest yearlings like no other auction.”

“We are proud of the catalogue and excited about showcasing these yearlings during one of the world’s great thoroughbred carnivals,” Bowditch added. “The Gold Coast is good to go!”

The popularity of the sale can be attributed to the success of recent graduates from Derby winners to Spring Champions and sizzling Group One sprinters. Importantly the Gold Coast sale ring is the only one to have sold a Golden Slipper winning colt this millennium.

Books 1 and 2 of the 2022 Gold Coast Yearling Sale feature the progeny of 107 individual stallions including 20 first season sires.
